Good morning, Granny! I haven’t experienced this but after hunting around with the search terms, “WP can’t make new post can only edit” the most readable response I get is this:
but I wouldn’t rule out that it could be a problem on their end. I do know that they’ve been pretty helpful when I asked them a question on the help page. This sounds so frustrating! I am hoping you get some answers soon.

What device are you writing on
According to the Web this most commonly occurs when your theme is deactivated. You could try a new theme and see if this helps.
I am working on a PC.
Going to look at the themes now.
