Granny and water.

Hello All.

I am supposed to be asleep in bed.
It is one thirty in the morning.
Sigh.

Yes, water.
Our city is in the news.
With one week to go before day zero, the powers that be, have finally woken up.
They are frantically putting up rows and rows of taps.
The intention is to switch off the water for all the houses in the area.
And folk are going to have to collect water from the taps.
I give it three days before all the taps are stolen.
For scrap.
Watch this space.

So far, our suburb appears to be safe.
But, for how long?

We only have a shower.
How the hell does one do laundry?
It is mind boggling and M is stressing.

These are the only plants that might survive.
I have two on my kitchen window sill.
They don’t look too healthy.

On the upside there is rain forecast for tomorrow.
Hopefully enough to fill our tank.

Now, with all this talk of water, I have to go and spend a penny.

  1. oh love, that sounds terrible, no water!!! Feel for you

    • Hi Love.
As I said our suburb might be ok for a while.
However, we woke up to no water this morning.
Thankfully, it seems to be back.
Think someone forgot to open the tap to our reservoir!

  2. Ok, I’m going to show my ignorance. Why is this an ongoing problem? Is it water catchment or infrastructure or something else entirely?

    • It is a bit of everything.
      Drought.
      Lack of maintenance.
      Water leaks.
      Excessive usage.
Day zero should have been addressed a year ago.
They are only trying to do something now.

      • Well I hope it rains like buggery then

      • Me too!

  3. Oh, I love that picture of the runaway cactus, Granny. That’s so funny 😂. I’ve got a cactus on my kitchen window sill that’s got an attitude problem! How it hasn’t died on me by now, I really don’t know. I never know what to do with it. I think it’s growing, albeit extremely slowly. It’s even flowered – once – in ten years!

I’m really glad you’re going to be getting some taps. I can picture you and M standing in a bucket (not necessarily together) while feeling wistful about an imaginary shower. As for washing clothes, that’ll be a real challenge. I’ve racked my brains to try and think of a solution for you but so far, drawn blanks. Have you got a river near you? Desperate measures and all that. In the meantime, let’s hope you get a torrential downpour ☔ by tomorrow. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Xx 💐💞

  4. So far we are not one of the suburbs getting taps.
    Hopefully it stays that way.

  5. Water woes would be quite worrisome. Hope a solution arrives. I expect that water woes will be worldwide concerns as climate change wreaks havoc on the environment.

    • We got here 10 years ago. It rained for three months. Hardly anything worth talking about since then.

  6. Ag jinne… water is so ‘n probleem. Ek wonder altyd wat doen skole, koshuise, winkelsentrums?? Ek bid dat daar ‘n stewige bui reën sal val. Sit daai emmers uit!

    • Morning Elsabe.
      It is POURING here.
Just hope it did the same when it passed our dam areas.

  7. So sorry at how you have to deal with water issues! UGH! Hang in there and thanks for keeping us smiling. Glad you don’t need water to blog. 🙂
That photo of the cactus is hilarious! I think thats how my plants feel!
