Granny and it’s over

Hello All.

The above pic was taken a few weeks ago.
And, now, she is gone.
She slipped away at three o’clock this morning.
At the ripe old age of 89.

I went through to see her, on my own, after work, yesterday.
She stared at me but I don’t think she knew me.
I stayed with her for an hour.
Holding her hand and stroking her head.
I do hope she DID know I was there.

Rest in peace Mom.

  1. Sad but thanks for sharing.

  2. Love and hugs Kath xxx

  3. She’s so cute. Aw. You did just the right thing. Just because they don’t remember doesn’t mean they don’t ‘know’, especially time & attention from a dear one. I’m glad the suffering was short. My condolences to you & your family. This is very hard on your stepdad. Special prayers going up for one & all.

    • Thank you so much SS…yes…after reading your last comment I know how lucky we are that she went quickly and peacefully.

  4. Thinking of you Kathy, she must have been so proud of her lovely daughter. Love you. xxx

  5. I am so sorry xx

So glad you could spend some time with her before she left, and I am sure she knew you were there, so she could let go.

Big big big hugs to you xxx

    • Thanks Elaine. Yes, I am so glad I went that final time.

  10. Sincere condolences. Even when one knows such an event is inevitable at any time, it is still hardly less of a blow.

    • Yes, Col, I had prepared myself but, as you say, it is still hard to take in.

  11. I am sorry for your loss 🙏🏼

  12. 89! i bet she saw a lot of changes through her life. I bet she knew you were there. When I was with my mum at the end I asked my daughter if she could find the music to 42nd street o YouTube, it was my Mum’s favourite song as she was a tapdancer in her youth. We held the phone to her face and as the music played she started moving her feet. She had not moved for days. We played it again and her feet started moving again. So yes, I bet she knew you were there and you were a comfort to her.

    • I do hope so.

    • Same sorta thing with my mom. Music memory is powerful & lasting.

  13. PS virtual hugsx

    • Thanks Piglet…love virtual hugs.

  14. I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. I’m sure she did know you were there and it will be a comfort to you in the days ahead to know you were able to spend time together at the end. X

  16. So sorry for your loss Granny. Condolences to your family. It’s very hard when this happens, the only consolation is that she didnt longer for months.

    • I agree Carol. Do not think I could have handled that. Bodily or mentally.

  17. I’m glad you had a chance to visit your mother one last time before she slipped away. Peace to you and your family.
