Granny confesses

2015_1022potholes0001

Hello All.

Two posts in two days.
Maybe I AM back.

Before I go any further let me explain the above pic.
You might not be able to make it out.
Those are doggy noses.
There are three of them but the third one would not oblige.
It cracks me up when they all try to bark at us from their confined space.
I don’t know why there are so many pitbulls in the complex.
Not my favourite pooches.

So, onto my confession.
I treated myself to an early Christmas present.
I bought the latest Terry Pratchett book.
I adore Terry Pratchett.
Have nearly ALL his books.

It is a hard cover so cost a small fortune.
And I tried to read it slowly to make it last.
That didn’t work.
And he killed off one of my favourite characters.
After he wrote the book HE died.
This is his LAST book.
And I shed a tear.
I don’t know if it was the death of my favourite character.
Or his death.
Or the fact that there won’t be anymore wonderful books.

On the upside one can read his books over and over.

  1. Wow. I know that feeling. When a series comes to end its like losing an old friend. And when someone is gone forever… wow. That’s all I can say.

    • I know…I am a bit annoyed with him…he could have hung on for a bit longer…I wasn’t ready.

  2. I’ve never read a Terry Pratchett book – maybe I should.

  3. I know what you mean, losing your favorite author is almost like losing part of your family or friends circle. Even when an author is alive but puts an absolute end to a series that I love, I feel the loss. There’s no greater honor or recognition you could give an author than to feel that way.

    • I guess you are right…I will never forget him.

  4. I understand the feeling. It’s like losing a real life friend almost. You have an empty feeling inside. Now about the poor dogs, how sad that they only have that little window on the outside world. Or I guess they might have other avenues in another part of the yard that I don’t know about.

    • No, they can see out from other parts but like to bark at us when we pass.

  5. Are they true pitbulls? That breed is illegal in Britain. The old Staffordshire bull terrier is a lovely dog, very intelligent but stubborn.

    • Yes, true pitbulls. They scare me though the pup next door is very sweet…for now!!!

  6. Merry Christmas!
Love the doggie snouts poking out.

Amazing that he was able to keep writing the series after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

    • Hi NR…yes, he knew he had it but maybe he wrote this last one before it got too bad. He also wrote two books with Stephen Baxter. Am reading the second one now but am not enjoying it too much.

  7. Hello Granny! Not read Terry P myself. Need to go check him out

    • He is not everyone’s cup of tea but I adore his stuff.

  8. How very inconsiderate of him to die on you. How many more books did you want from him? Those doggie noses are hilarious. I find even the thought of pitbulls very unnerving.

  9. Reading a good book always makes me sad because finding a good read to top that one usually takes months or years.

    • Hi Gobetween…I know what you mean…am really unhappy that there won’t be any more from him. He was my Xmas treat every year.

  10. I haven’t read any of his books, but I can relate. I used to watch this serial on TV, “The monk” regularly. Was so sad when it ended. I actually miss the guy.

    • To enjoy his books you have to have a really good imagination…give them a try…would love to know what you think of them.

  11. My parallel experience was with PD James. She had the nerve to die! I got all excited about Mr. Pratchett, but now that I know his main character dies, I may have to rethink the idea. I just get so attached… !!!
