Granny is blank

Hello All.
Is this my blog?
Looks a bit unfamiliar.
I haven’t blogged for more than a week.
A new record.
One I didn’t want.

First…the above photo.
My Dad found some REALLY old photos.
And I thought they might be a bit interesting.
Taken in about 1938/40
That tank looks as if it hadn’t operated for more than a hundred years.

My stepdad is third from the left.
He looks cold.
Nothing much has changed.
It is freezing here.
I wonder how many of those guys are still around?

One more.
Bear with me.

This one was taken at some well known racetrack in Italy.
The name completely eludes me.
I am sure one of you will remind me.

End of history lesson.

It has been an up and down week.
I have had a rotten cold.
It is on it’s way out.
I hope.
I have just sort of felt out of it.
Have not felt like blogging.
Or reading.
Or even eating.

There was one highlight.
Mex’s son came down on business from Johannesburg.
I hadn’t seen him in more than ten years so it was great.
We met him for supper.
Just before we left I asked the folks if they would babysit Jasmine.
My Mom asked what time we would be back.
I asked what time they were planning on going to bed.
My Dad said they worried when the kids were out at night.
I shrieked with laughter.
I have not been called a kid for a LONG, LONG time.

We ate at a restuarant in the local casino complex.
And went to the casino after supper.
Where I won R800.
I probably would have put it back.
But Mex was hovering(he does not gamble)
And made me cash in.
Still…..I had fun.
About the only time this week.

It has rained and rained and rained.
And then, just for fun, it rained some more.
And now it looks like we are going to get some more.
I think I am suffering from lack of sunshine.
Lack of warmth.
Lack of my own home.
Lack of the grandkids.
Even lack of my kids.
And that is taking lack to a new level.
Oh yes….and lack of Tom….have resigned myself that he has met an untimely end.

So…before this becomes a pity party I shall leave you.

Tomorrow is a new day.

  1. You are allowed a pity party every now and then. I’m sorry about Tom. And I’m sorry you’ve been sick and missing home and the kids and grandkids. I miss my grandkids; they’re in California with their dad now. I miss my daughter who lives 5 minutes from me and whom I haven’t heard from in 3 weeks. Don’t know what I did or didn’t do, but apparently she doesn’t want to talk to me. We can have a pity party together.

    • Shame maire….come on over!!!

  2. Now I am crying because you have lost Tom..that is really very sad. But I did think that it would not be good news because he disappeared so soon after moviing that he would not know his area….

Sod the rain…and the cold… you can have some of our heat… I must not moan but I would willingly give it away it is so hot.

    • Thanks Patrecia…yes…the worst part is not knowing…am very sad about the little bugger.

  3. Good old history from the time discipline was still a key word.

    • Hi Newsey…those pics were taken before I was born but I thought the army was great for the kids…wish my grandsons could do some time!

  4. Party hardy I say. We all need a little pitty party once in while. I hate to hear that about Tom. So sorry. Old photos are fun. Glad to hear that you on the end of the cold.

Speaking of rain. We hadn’t had rain in so long most of us forgot what it was. I rarely drive on the interstate but yes last night I decided to so I could get home faster after being out shopping. It started thundering while I was checking out. It had gotten dark while I was outside and the storm was very dark. About middle way on the interstate part of my drive the bottom dropped out of the sky. Oh good interstate, dark, the heaveist rain ever! As I came off the ramp the roads were flooded. My car didn’t like that. It suddendly wouldn’t go ovr 20 miles an hour, not that anyone should have been at that point. But I do think that at some point someone may have been pushing me. By the time I got about a mile from my house I had to go up a slighly hilly street. My car did not want too. Now it was only going about 15 miles an hour. Finally I got home. So happy to be home.

Just to make you feel better, before I left home my tea pitcher broke and fell apart right in from of the refridgerator spilling an entire gallon of tea on the floor! I don’t have a mop and I was out of swiffer pads to go on the doo-dad. Needless to say the ones I bought were left in the car when I got home.

I hope you get to see the rest of your family soon. That would be such a diffulcut thing for me. Hugs to you.

    • Oh my goodness Linda….is the car working now? I would have been terrified.
You make a GALLON of tea at a time?????

      • I have no idea if the car is working. My husband said it would be since it has had time to dry out. I’m in no hurry to find out. My daughter called this evening and asked if I wanted to go to the local hobby store in the same area I was last night and I said NO! Plus I heard thunder.

We drink a gallon of sweet iced tea a day. I almost always have to make more before the end of the day. I know we should drink water but we don’t like water. I try sometimes.

      • I don’t blame you Linda…have been driving to work in the rain every morning…it sucks!

  5. i am so sorry about Tom, I just hope he has moved in with someone else and is happy there

    • Me too Sidey….just wish I knew.

      • it is so hard, he was accustomed to such freedom

      • That is what I don’t understand Sidey….he had been going out and coming back….even had words with a cat from along the road…am sure he had settled.

      • that is so sad for you. You loved him and his wild ways

      • Something strange going on here Sidey….I keep having to get you out of my spam and approving you again~!

      • I seem to have become a spam-machine *sob*

      • And it did it again…once again I had to approve…the one above came through fine????

      • I mailed the askimet people to tell them i’m a real people, not a spam-machine

  6. The name of the race track is Monza!
    Poor Tom ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Lucky you to win R800 and glad you kept it ๐Ÿ˜‰
Please blow the rain clouds further up the coast.

    • There we go….I knew someone would know the name!

  7. So sad about poor old Tom. Congrats on the win. Hope this coming week is a much better one, granny. Hugs xx

    • Thanks AD…are you still gallivanting?

  8. Glad you’re back. I’ve missed you, even the blank bits. lol. Sorry about Tom ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  9. Fascinating pictures – I love old black and white photos.
    Poor Tom. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    • Hi Elaine….real vintage stuff.

  10. Lovely photos granny.

    • I had a feeling you would enjoy them Harry!

  11. Some weeks are like this – one minute you’re up and the next you’re down. Hope the rain stops. Glad to see you back.

    • Thanks Mara…shall try to post again tonight.

  12. Sounds like you’ve had a bad week. I thought I’d not seen any email notifications recently. Great photos. I love looking at old pics and wondering what life was like then.

    • Glad you enjoyed them PIP.

  13. Sounds like a rough week . . .and to lose Tom on top of it all. Please accept my virtual hugs. Hope next week is filled with sunshine and warmth. Take care.

    • Hi Cecelia….great to see you again…thanks my friend.

  14. Oh Granny, I’m so sorry Tom never came home. Let’s believe that a cute kid saw him and adopted him.

I’m also sorry to hear that you’ve been sick. I missed your posts but I knew you were okay when I got your emails, which stopped me from worrying. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rain, rain, go away! Too much gray weather can definitely affect anyone’s spirits negatively.

And I enjoyed those old photos you posted!

    • Hi RD….more rain on the way…damnit!

  15. Love the old photos. But they make me a bit sad, because they were of war, but that’s just history, I suppose.
Sorry to hear that your Tom is missing. Don’t give up hope, though, cats are amazing at showing up out of the blue.
Nice win — though, how much is R800?
Hope your cold is gone soon.
    Take care.

    • Hi There Kathy…it is about $100. Sounds much better in rands!!!

  16. Hi, Granny … I know it’s been a while since I’ve been here. I’ve made a mid-year resolution to start reading blogs again … with my average, it’s about 50-50 I’ll do it. It’s been good to have you stop by Older Eyes again. I hope Tom returns. As a cat guy, I hate to hear about losing a kitty.

    • Good to see you again Bud….yes…hate not knowing.

  17. Tom has maybe moved house and been adopted by a loving family that call him Suzie. That could be reason enough to move back home ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Well, I wish he would hurry back then.

  18. Poor Granny. I hate to see you down in the dumps.

    • Don’t worry Tilly…will bounce back soon.

  19. So sorry no news of Tom. One can only hope that he is OK but not know ing is terrible. And being sick as well, sounds like a rotten week was had. Its been cold and rainy here in Cape Town too.

    • It never seems to end Optie…more on the way tonight.

  20. love to look at old pic’s like these.

    • Hello Rosa….welcome to my blog.

  21. So sorry about Tom and I hope you feel better soon. Himself also doesn’t gamble and on the rare occasion we go to a casino he also stands and watches me sternly!

    • I hate going with Mex sue…spoils all my fun!!!

  22. It’s a bad time for cats apparently. Duc’s still coming through his hyper-hyperthyroidism with test results that were off the charts. He’s not himself yet. Then Kate Shrewsday had to say goodbye to her 20 year old cat. Now Tom’s still AWOL? I don’t like this…!

Isn’t it the pits having to adjust to new situations? All those darned things come bubbling up that ya never thought would bother!

    • Oh dear…I do hope Duc comes right.
