Granny has a light bulb moment

Hello All.

So, I had a lovely time.
Not spectacular but I enjoyed it.
No I didn’t go to the hot pools.
No I didn’t have a facial.
No I didn’t have a massage.

But I learned something.
Yes, even at my age you can learn something.
ML is used to the best of everything.
SO…when things are not up to her standard she complains.
Bitterly and loudly.

I, on the other hand, am quite laid back.
I enjoy all the little bits of luxury.
And, if something is not quite right, I can shrug my shoulders.
And say it doesn’t really matter.

When we walked into our rooms I said they were lovely.
ML said they were very basic.
I am not sure what she meant.
They each had a king size bed.
With lovely pillows.
They were air conditioned.
They had great flat screen TV’s mounted on the wall.
They had a fridge.
With nothing in them.
They had big fluffy towels.
And really nice shampoo and bath goodies.
What was missing?

That was when the penny dropped.
I could get great joy out of the basic stuff.
She couldn’t.
That is quite sad.
I like her.
A lot.
I think she is so kind and generous.
I just feel sad that she has lost the ability to enjoy the simple things.

We didn’t have a balcony.
But that was OK.
It was grey and drizzling most of the weekend.
We DID have the most wonderful views from our windows.

I slept badly on the first night.
Kept leaping out of bed with cramp.
So I was really tired on Saturday.
I left ML in the casino and I was tucked up in bed with a toasted sandwich and my book by eight.
You might think this is crazy.
To me it was the height of luxury.
I so seldom get the chance to be alone.
I revelled in it.

I was fascinated by this tree.

So, I reckon I have waffled enough.
No wait.
I got to drive ML’s new car back home.
A Honda Civic 1,8.
That thing has a stable full of horses under the hood.
Scared the hell out of me.
Everyone passed us.
New cars.
Old cars.
People on bicycles.
Ok…the last one isn’t true.
But I loved driving her.
Nice leather seats and a beautiful shade of blue.
All the men are saying what has that got to do with anything.
But you girls understand!

  1. Sounds blissful Granny, one does not always have to be busy to have a great time. Hope you are all better now.

    • I am VERY well thanks Optie…will be even weller after a walk this evening. πŸ™‚

  2. sometimes a treat for one is not for another. poor ML,if little makes her hapooy then she leaves herself little option but to be unhappy

    • Hello Sidey….are you better?

      • Not yet, horrid thing this one

      • Oh Dear Sidey…sounds like the bug I had in January…be careful…mine came back.

  3. Oh yes, I understand – car color sets the whole tone of your drives! It’s got to be pretty (sorry guys!). I’m like you – the simple pleasures are the best. I’m not high-strung or demanding and I feel that simplicity is at the root of a happy life. I’m glad you enjoyed the weekend! Good to see you back! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks RD…nice to get back to “normal” again!

  4. I love the tree.

    • Hi Inzwakazi…thank you for the visit.
Tomorrow I must post the close up I took.

  5. Glad you had a good time πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Roly…nothing funny like my trip to the Spa two years ago but very enjoyable.

  6. It’s good to be grateful for everything good things which comes our way. Such people are really nice to be around. Glad you had a good time, granny. πŸ˜‰ Hugs xx

    • Thanks AD…sad to lose out on the simple stuff.

  7. I like how you think Granny, about being happy with basic stuff…I like that.
    *hugs*

    • Hi HH…..yes…I could look at the tree and go wow…..poor ML was annoyed we had to park so far away.

  8. Oh, that is one beautiful room Granny! And the photo’s are just gorgeous! I am glad you had a good time. Yeah, I am laid back as well…I think it comes with age, or doesn’t it? Or do we just appreciate the little things more than other people? Dunno…don’t care. That tree is absolutely beautiful indeed.
Cars…I don’t like cars. I prefer walking. LOL!
Well, I am sure Jasmine missed you a lot. Please give her a big hug from me. πŸ™‚
*hugs* to you as well. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Sonel…isn’t the tree lovely? It was too big to fit the whole thing into the picture.

      • It’s absolutely beautiful and so is the shot you took Granny. Really very artistic photo that one! πŸ™‚

  9. It’s the simple things in life that count.
You had a weekend away from the normal stuff and you enjoyed the break, that’s the main thing.

    • Yes Twolips….little things like a choccie on my pillow at night. πŸ™‚

  10. I love the way you described the car! Maybe you should contact some car companies and work for them. That was so funny.

I guess sometimes having so much money can ruin things.

    • Hi Linda….any car companies out there??????

  11. The room looks great granny, glad you had a good rest.

I’m still waiting on the list from you πŸ™‚

    • Hello Harry…I know…and the longer I leave it the more there are!
I need to finish my CV today and then I can concentrate on WP.

  12. Granny, the one who loves and accepts what exists knows freedom.

The peace, solitude, good book, stellar tree, and acres of bed gave me a sense of you having a treat. Good!

    You didn’t mention the food…hmmmm.

    • Sorry…knock off that “is” after exists, please, Granny.

    • Good Heavens Souldipper…you are right…the food….it was good….we only had breakfast really but that was excellent…had supper in the restuarant the first evening…not bad.

  13. Glad to have you back, Granny. The room looks good to me πŸ™‚

    • Hi Tilly….I should have taken a couple more shots of the room…I loved it…look at the size of the bed.

  14. So glad you had a relaxing time – also my idea of bliss – bed and a book – alone (well… for a while, anyway, lol). I have only ever had a car in the colour I like – sharkskin sliver – but it had hail damage, otherwise I would never have been able to afford it!

    • Hi Adee….a bit of hail damage is nothing between friends!

  15. I know exactly how you feel about everything you posted. The room looks lovely — and to me one of the best parts about staying in a hotel? Some one else makes the bed!

    • You have that right Kathy….and they wash up your coffee cups and clean the shower….home is never like that!

  16. Simple pleasures are life’s treasures . . . when we know HOW to appreciate them.

We had grilled cheese, sliced apple, and potato chips for lunch. I’m a happy camper.

    • You are so right NR…the older I get the more I enjoy the little things. Years ago I would not have given the tree a second look.
      Your lunch sounds good!

  17. Granny, simple basic clean with a simple basic elegance as shown in your picture. Works for me. CLEAN. I love a vehicle with a stable of horses and an exhaust that growls a little. OooEeeee! White is my color but blue will work very nicely πŸ™‚ It is the little things.

    • Hi Sweetdays…it is a lovely shade of blue.
I found the growling a little scary.

  18. I feel sorry for your friend – by not appreciating the little joys in life, will she ever find the contentment that you so clearly have, Granny! πŸ™‚

  19. I like hotels – period. Whether it is excessive luxury or more plain – as long as it’s not worse than what I’m used to at home πŸ˜‰ Talk about the simple things… I’ve been getting used to that a lot lately. You can do without a lot but many people don’t know that. Sounds like you had a pleasant time anyway – great!

    • Me too Yada….hotels are a treat for me!

  20. Honestly…what more does she want. That room and bed looks so comfortable and what a lovely view. There’s something surrealistic about that photograph. Glad you had a laid back time. of the tree..like as they appear in dreams.

  21. That comment is a little messed up. I hope you can make sense.
