GREAT Gran gets connected

I am breaking my rule again.
This post is just bubbling to come out.

So…my eighty two and a half year old mother phones me to tell me she is now connected to the internet.
She gives me her e-mail address.
I send her a mail to test it and it bounces back.
I phone her and tell her to get hold of the guy who set it up for her.
I phone her later and she says HE says it is from MY side.
Asshole.

I then discover she is very confused between e-mail and internet.
I explain the difference.
I then say we need to go onto her Outlook.
The conversation went something like this.

Me…You need to go onto your desktop and look for an orangey picture with a little clock in it.
Mom….I see HP…a comma…Internet…e-mail…chat…camera.
Me…Mom….what page have you got on your screen?
Mom….No…I am looking on the keyboard…the computer is off!

This is going to be harder than I thought.
To give her her due….the keyboard WAS on top of her DESK.

I am going to phone her later.
Check her e-mail settings.
The blind leading the blinder.
My first instruction will be:
Turn your frigging computer ON.
This she knows how to do.

Anyone got any Valium?

  1. Oh dearie dearie me! You have a l…o…n…g task ahead of you! 🙂

  2. My folks are 78 and they have the odd battle, but on the whole they can send emails, use skype and read my blog. When I go over I have to give Mum lessons on Facebook, she managed to join and get her picture up but got confused as to how to work it.

    • I think I have a bit of a battle ahead…they are so far from me.

  3. I’m amazed that at her age she even has the courage to TRY! Most people of that age are nervous of computers.

    • good Morning Adair….lovely to see you here…believe me…she IS nervous.

  4. Nothing harder than explaining things by ‘remote control’ – enough to make you take to drink, lol!

    • Morning Adee…you’ve got that right girl…it is horrendous!

  5. I think it’s fabulous. Are you going to teach her to blog?

    • In the words of our president…absolutely…cindy.

  6. Cool!! *JustMe makes note to check out the Great Gran Blog, looks around and sees that she is not being watched and places TEN full hipflasks behind Granny’s calendar*

    • Thank you Justme…that should just about do it!

  7. Gmf…I think she’s great! Internet and e-mail at her age, I’m still battling and I’m a bit younger than her. You go Great Granny!!!!

    • Storm!!! How wonderful to see you here.
Once she has mastered the keyboard I will help her set up on LD…be nice to her!

  8. Yipee! Help her woman – she needs to dish up the dirt on our Granny! *gleeful chuckles*

    • Morning Lynda….and she WILL!!!!

  9. Hi Granny,

don’t know what time it is there but I just got home and am having a cold one, thought I’d drop in and say hello. I sympathize with you and the world cup fever thing — we just went through the Vancouver Winter Olympics — but, my it was fun to be so distracted for that short little while! And, I think it brought our country back together — restored our sense of self and pride and all that — so, maybe you SHOULD seriously consider running for president — just tie in somehow to the games! Doubtless you’d be a shoo-in.

    • Good Morning Klrs…big time difference…it was two in the morning when this arrived.
Yes it has definitely brought people together.
      Long may it last!

  10. Just give her time and a teenager
